During the course of writing the Daily Liberal Mapping Project , I started realizing what a massive impact Barack Obama is going to have on this election, both in Minnesota and states all around the country. A great article in American Prospect had some insights into how tuned-in Obama is to the 50-state strategy and races all around the country. Minnesota is no exception. In Minnesota, Obama’s voter-registration and get-out-the-vote efforts could make the difference for candidates like Al Franken .

The Anonymous Liberal:
That said, if you want to squint really hard, there is a potential upside to the way things played out. It’s pretty clear from the statements of various parties, including Lieberman himself, that Obama’s expressed desire to bury the hatchet was instrumental in allowing Lieberman to retain his c... more
The only take away from this Guardian article is that either Obama doesn’t understand basic economics, or he does, and wants to destroy the US economy.
He went on to lay out an ambitious agenda, beginning with targets aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020. Obama also reiterated a campaign pledge to invest $15bn (£10bn) a year in clean technology - including clean coal and nuclear power.
In July 1990 the US GDP (adjusted) was $7.1 trillion. In July 2008... more

Chanukah? Hannukah? Hanaka? Whatever, as long as you spit when you say it.
Hannukah is, due to its approximate coincidence with Christmas on the calendar, one of the most widely-recognized Jewish holidays, but perhaps one of the least well-understood. It commemorates the Miracle of the Oil - after winning a guerilla war against the Seleucid forces of Antiochus IV, the Macabees and their followers could only find enough unspoiled oil to light the Temple’s eternal f... more
And it’s concerned with raising the minimum wage. Color me both unsurprised and immensely pleased, for multiple reasons - not only does this move show that the First District’s new Congressman has the right priorities for his district, but the entire Democratic caucus recognizes that this is an issue of immense importance to the people who elected them.

Marty : Joe, you have a good point when you say that Amy Klobuchar was able to connect with voters all over the state, regardless of where she was from and ask me if I think Johnson has the same kind of charisma to connect with both Minneapolitans and folks in Bemidji? I can... more
