In my neck of the woods, we are still in the midst of winter. Spring is next week, and we still have snow on the ground! We are actually beginning to believe Old Man Winter will never go away. I have even heard some say that the robins are back, so I decided to see for myself. It turns out that they are. Those poor robins!! They depend on spring, but all they’re getting is winter. What can we do for them? Here are some suggestions:
1. Put out a bird feeder. Make sure it is high enough so other animals won’t eat the food. Black oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and cracked corn are some good options for the birds.
2. Place some suet outside for the birds to feed on. The high fat within the suet converts to heat to help the birds stay warm after they eat it.

We recently acquired two new puppies, Spot and Sugar. We were originally going to buy a purebred dog, but fate led us to check out some mix-breed puppies that were closer to home. First, we were led into a small barn area, and then several puppies peeked out from a little wooden doghouse. The puppies seemed to be part German Shepherd and part American Bulldog. However, there was a question as to whether a St. Bernard could have fathered one or two of the pups. We chose a white puppy with one bl...

Why am I writing about crows? Most people consider them to be ugly, black, loud scavengers. I guess I tend to consider them a nuisance and wanted to learn more about them. Hundreds of crows seem to flock to our home every day. They try their best to break open our trash bags so they can secure a feast for themselves. Sometimes they succeed, which means we have to pick up trash that has been scattered all over our yard. They also sit on our chimney ledge to keep warm. After doing a little resear...
