Thieves Use Name of Local Grocery Chain To Steal Money

A local grocery chain’s name is being used to steal money from people across the nation.
Just about everybody in Texas knows - H-E-B. It’s a name people trust. And according to the Better Business Bureau, that’s exactly why the company’s name is being used on fake checks.
"That just makes them more apt to think they really and truly have gotten a good check," explained Dean Taylor with the Better Business Bureau.
It’s a scam where you send money back to a company who just sent you a check. But the check is a fake, and you’re out the money you sent back to them.
"It is a big problem. Thousands of people receive these every year," said Taylor.
A woman in Pennsylvania alerted Taylor about a phony check she received with H-E-B’s name on it.
