Thirteen Things about how to pad your diet and save some pennies In these financially stricken times, it pays to revive some of those housewifely skills of yesteryear. Depending upon your weekly food budget, it may be that with a little resourcefulness, deception and cunning, you can stretch the pennies a little further, as well as indirectly stretch the diet. When we first arrived in the States we went to a chilli cookout. It was quite an extraordinary experience f... more

A good book has no ending. -R.D. Cumming   I did something crazy this week and signed up for National Novel Writing Month . The object is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days during November.  I love to write, but HATE sharing what I have written with the public so this was a huge decision for me!   After much hemming and hawing, I decided to pick a genre first. Chick Lit will be my category, so to inspire me, this week’s Thursday Thirteen is a list of my 13 favorite ch... more

Today we deviate from kid-love to discuss reasons to vote. Stop, some are serious and some funny. You know I’m not boring. This is not about who you are voting for. I don’t really care, just freaking vote. 1. It’s your voice. Don’t duct tape your own mouth. 2. Think your vote does not count? Locally one vote can make the difference. 3. Think your vote still does not count? One word, Florida. 4. Someone will drive you to the polls, if you can’t. Cal your lo... more

The next stop on most expensive zip codes tour brings us to Philadelphia, PA. I thought this would be a good choice as the Phillie’s beat my Tampa Rays in the World Series last night. Payday loan comes in handy

This morning I received a phone call from a very close, but distraught friend. Her car had broken down over the weekend and the auto repair shop had just called her with the bad news. It would cost her close to $500 for the repairs. She didn’t know what she was going to do, because she didn’t have any family or friends to borrow the money from, and she simply didn’t have any ‘extra’ money stocked away in the bank. I would have offered to help her, if I had it, ... more
Take time to smell the flowers

I’ve made it abundantly clear throughout my blog that I’m not a big fan of exercising. At my size, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to do. However, my nature hikes have made getting some form of exercise alot easier. It also doesn’t hurt that I can always find something to take photographs of along the way.   Case in point: This pretty red flower is one of the many varieties of Tennessee Wildflowers that are readily available in this area, and it’... more

Today was such a beautiful day here in East TN, that hubby and I decided to take a hike on The Cataract Falls Trail of The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. I walked about two miles in total. On the left, is a pic of the Cataract Falls sign, taken directly in front of the falls. On the right is a pic that John took of me, while I was walking across the bridge on the Cataract Falls Trail. This next photo on the left here, was taken using the timer feature on our new came... more
