“The New York Times” recently reported that DVR producer TiVo and Amazon expand their partnership. From now on, TiVo users will be able to order products (such as books, CDs and DVDs) directly from Amazon with their TV remote controls. The new “Product Purchase” feature enables people to buy products related to ads placed during commercial breaks as well as products that guests promote on talk shows. Hence, publishers can promote and sell books in shows where the author appears as a guest.
The collaboration provides added value to the customers of both companies and generates a competitive advantage. To Amazon TiVo provides an additional distribution channel which facilitates impulse purchases and to reach new target groups. For TiVo this might be an incentive for suppliers to decide to list products on the online marketplace.
