Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for the last week, the buzz around the nation is the selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as John McCain’s Vice-Presidential candidate. Overnight we learned much more about a heretofore semi-obscure governor that we knew about most of the other 49 governors combined. (If only we knew less about Martin O’Malley, particularly his love of spending other peoples’ money.)
Unfortunately, a lot of what we’ve learned about Mrs. Palin is of the tabloid variety, particularly about her 17-year-old daughter who’s unmarried and five months pregnant. Conversely, Governor Palin is a working mother, part of a two-income family who has four other children, one being a son who’s set to ship out to Iraq with his Army unit and another son who was born just months ago with Down’s Syndrome, plus two more daughters. That alone would keep most mothers’ hands full, but she’s like most moms who h...

Democrats may tax health benefits - The Boston Globe WASHINGTON - In the last month of the presidential campaign, it was one of Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s strongest attack lines: John McCain, they warned, would “tax your healthcare benefits for the first time ever.”But now, some Congressional Democrats in charge of health reform are talking about doing just that. ... more

Welcome to Vichy America
This was not just another election. The last time we had a presidential election, the Left tried to get a brazen traitor elected - namely John Kerry. This new President from the Left is even more than that. Obama was no traitor, because he never was really on our side in the first place. Obama was really a foreign candidate - in spirit, funding, and citizenship.

Out in California, they recalled 143 million pounds of tainted beef. That’s one triple-stacked burger at Wendy’s. A hundred forty three million pounds of tainted beef! I believe that’s the largest amount of tainted meat since Roger Clemens.”

This is a goldmine of information about Pennsylvania Open Records laws both at state AND municipal level. If this is to be a government of the people, by the people and for the people, then “we, the people” or, at least, some of us who are fascinated by the workings of our government can follow the money and the activities of our elected and appointed officials.

It seems that Froma Harrop of Creator’s Syndicate news service was on vacation from just about five days before the general election until today and she’s just catching up on all the Palin hatin’ she must have missed. Unfortunately for Harrop, she still hasn’t caught up with the truth yet because her latest is filled with every lie about Governor Palin she could jam into one column, quite despite that for weeks her digs have been proven lies. In hers headlined, "Palin sho... more
Driving home today and listening to NPR I heard a woman, speaking at a “welcome home” rally for Palin in Alaska, say that she thinks America will take the state of Alaska more seriously as a result of this election. I find that fascinating. While Palin garnered intense support from social conservatives, she was largely [...]... more

Apparently, the “Palin thinks Africa’s a country” story is sourced to a long-running hoax , in which a pair of filmmakers manufactured a fake “policy expert” (a senior fellow at the made-up Harding Institute) who claimed first to be a Giuliani supporter, and then later a McCain advisor.
Update: It looks like I misinterpreted the article — the mistake the media made was picking up on attributing the story to the hoaxster, but other articles have Fox den... more
I was inspired to write this post by a Daily Times article by Sharahn Boykin that appeared in today’s paper. In describing the capture of seat belt scofflaws, Boykin noted that the Wicomico County sheriff’s deputy in question was spending a portion of his patrol “struggl(ing) to see far enough into each car to find what he was looking for — drivers without seat belts.”

This week’s SotW is getting plenty of playing time, but a lot of it comes on the bench. Anthony Martinez has alternated with fellow first baseman Joe Mahoney between that spot and being the designated hitter for most of the Shorebirds’ games thus far. He’s also earned a spot as a fan favorite for his friendly attitude.
While his numbers aren’t the highest on the team, Anthony also suffers from one of the strangest splits you’ll see in a player. His bat... more
A trio of interesting notes as we munch our lunches, and all pertain to food.
If you like to eat out on a regular basis, game Tuesdays will feature a buffet at the Shorebirds’ Hardball Cafe beginning next Tuesday, June 3rd. It’s not a bad deal because for $18 (or less, just $15 if you purchase in advance) you can sit right behind home plate and enjoy a buffet of ballpark fare (like burgers, dogs, chips, etc.) I can’t say that’s a bad way to spend a T... more
So’s Newt Gingrich, and since he pays a little more attention to the goings-on in Congress than even I do, he’s playing the modern-day Paul Revere and letting us know that the Warner-Lieberman global warming bill is coming up for debate in the next few days:
There must be something about springtime in Washington that makes Senators forget where they came from.
