Apparently, the recent Liberty Fund conference got a little bit heated over some discussion of fusionist Frank S. Meyer and states’ rights. Apparently law prof/blogger Ann Althouse engaged in some theatrics over at least one of the presentations. Now the discussion has spilled over into the blogosphere, and you can see Althouse and Jonah Goldberg get into it, 2006-style, in this lovely bloggingheads.tv debate . Althouse does a pretty good job of drumming up outrage and offense over pretty much nothing, and she delivers a slew of totally absurd declarations, the best of which has to be, “I like principle too, but you can only take it so far.” Translation: Principle is wonderful as long as it leads to the ends I want. But then I have to ask, why bother with principle at all?
