Tropical Storm Fay continues to harass Florida this morning, disrupting the travel plans across the state. As I write this, the storm is stalled off the coast near Daytona Beach.
High wind and rain are closing roads and causing unexpected flooding. Not a good time for a road trip, needless to say.
I’m about a half-hour drive from Daytona Beach, and the conditions here have deteriorated in the last few hours. It looks like a hurricane out there.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management has the latest travel-related advisories . The state’s Transportation Department also offers a free 511 service that can be accessed by cell phone or online. The Florida Highway Patrol lists road closures in the area . (Stay away from A1A near Daytona.)
FlightStats is reporting that several airports are affected by Fay, including Melbourne International...

Aggressive Tailgating - This middle-aged woman had the nerve of tailgating me in the right lane of Interstate 275 southbound coming from Roosevelt Blvd. (Exit 30). I moved into the middle lane in order to get away from her as I was going with the flow of traffic at 65 mph, which is the speed limit on Interstate 275 in St. Petersburg.

The past weekend was a rough one for the Lee County motorcycle community. In a span of 24 hours, in three separate wrecks, two bikers from Estero died and a third, from Bonita Springs, was severely injured. All three accidents were single-vehicle wrecks, investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol concluded. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials are requesting the public’s help in determining who killed a Florida black bear in Osceola National Forest.
A report came into FWC about a dead bear, and Officer Bret Gill responded. The adult male black bear weighed approximately 250 pounds. The animal had been shot with a firearm and was found in the Hog Pen area off Forest Road 241.

Here in east central Florida I sightfish shallow saltwater in the Indian River Lagoon System for red & black drum by fly, as well as snook and tarpon in late Summer and Fall. We recently got swamped with rain fron tropical Storm Fay, which brought our water level up almost 3ft., and right now our snook and tarpon are going off !
