Today’s topic is books. I’ve rounded up quotes from vegan bloggers who have reviewed or written about two new books, Thanking The Monkey and The Compassionate Carnivore.
Book: Thanking The Monkey
The book is popular, hip, and accessible, but even the book’s description has problems:
“Thanking the Monkey is light on lectures meant to make you feel guilty if you’re not a leather-eschewing vegan.”
Gee, thanks. When vegans ‘lecture’ people about veganism, it’s not to make them feel guilty; it’s to make them think, and hopefully act, differently.

I ate the best meal of my life in San Francisco.
I chose a chard and lentil roulade with a side of rosemary artichoke and potato gratin. After one bite I regretted eating some bread before my meal. In fact I regretted eating lunch. It was so tasty, so filling, so heavenly.
It was fabulous. Really, it surpassed Candle 79.

I went vegetarian at six years old. I told announced that I would no longer eat my friends. Luckily, my mom accepted my decision and even became a vegetarian herself! My nephew decided to go veg at eight years old.
