I attended We Media a few weeks back in London and am currently listening in to the opening keynotes at Syndicate here in NY. A few quick observations would be that We Media seemed to focus more on using social technology to make the world better and Syndicate seems to focus more on using it to make money.
This is itself an entirely fair comparison nor a dig on either of the gatherings — just a feel from listening to the conversations.

Morning sessions of Syndicate have been good so far, but the comment that stands out to me came first thing from Jeff Jarvis.
…it’s not just about content & context, it is about relationships.
As media struggles to push out content I think it is well served for them to consider they are forming relationships and getting involved in a conversation.
