Good morning. That “gang” has a lot of funny praxis . Not a cave, and not spelunking . YHWH and the New Testament . It seems to me the question asked at the end isn’t quite right, the first question is what were 1st century Judaic customs. Dumb Dem memes . Fiorina on Palin … what she didn’t add was that none of the four are “qualifed” to run a large corporation. The probably aren’t qualified to perform surgery either. The political divide and investments . The new guy . Selfishness now a virtue . How long will it take before all of the 8 cardinal sins are touted as virtues? Suu Kyi on a IV now . Mr Obama calls the kettle black . Pigs and beauty . On New York (the city) and the finanical crises . Fitness advice for the off-season cyclist . The left notes Mr Obama’s latest sally , alas he doesn’t practice what he preaches as he there is a sizeable discrepency between female and male staffers in his c...

Published in August in the U.K. Telegraph: Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama’s half-sister, told the Associated Press recently that her grandfather had seen Mr Davis was a "point of connection, a bridge if you will, to the larger African-American experience for my brother". In his memoir, Mr Obama recounts how he visited Mr Davis on several occasions, apparently at junctures when he was grappling with racial issues, to seek his counsel. At one point in 1979 Mr Davis described unive... more

Another Torture Question
From: pseudopolymath.com
Post Date: 2008-03-26 13:10:54

Waterboarding as torture, apparently, is terrifying but leaves no non-psychological damage. If it was used in conjunction with a drug which prevents short term memory from forming long term memory … so that tomorrow (or even a few hours later) the victim/subject nor longer has any memory of the event. Does that affect the morality of the torture? Update: Why do you answer the way you do? ... more
Question on Torture

Joe Carter brings up a number of points , some of which I might return to, but this torture issue made me think of a question. Mr Carter writes: Four — I can’t make excuses for us on this one anymore: Christians have to take a firm stand against torture. Yes, there is a debate about what exactly is meant by that term. Let’s have that debate. Let’s define the term in a way that consistent with our belief in human dignity. And then let’s hold every politician in t... more

Douglas Wilson , blogger and noted theologian, writes : One more quick comment on penitential seasons. I do believe it is possible for good, sound Protestants to observe such seasons, provided they redefine everything and do something very different from what gave rise to the historical practice in the first place. But it seems to me this is done with success rarely, and when it is successfully done, the question “why?” naturally arises. In my view, the impulse behind peniteni... more
