Maine : It looks like Senator Collins and her friends need to get their stories straight. Stuart Bowen, the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, happened to be visiting Maine in early January to give a talk at Husson College. While in Maine, Bowen and Collins did an editorial board together at the Portland Press Herald (PPH). Not only was Bowen’s appearance deemed "inappropriate," but now there is conflict about how this "inappropriate" editorial board was set up . John Porter, PPH’s opinion editor. says that Collins’ spokeswoman, Jen Burita, contacted him about setting it up. But Bowen testified that PPH invited him to come up. It seems that Susan Collins’ office is the intermediary in this situation, so perhaps Collins could shed some light on this miscommunication. We’ll await her comment.

Over the years, Daily Kos has frequently called out issue groups for endorsing Republicans. These groups do that to show their bipartisanship, choosing Republicans who, despite casting the occasional decent vote on the issue, will ultimately move us backward by voting for Republican leadership in Congress and the agenda that entails. The Sierra Club has done it repeatedly. NARAL has done it. And, yeah, Planned Parenthood has done it. This week, Planned Parenthood undid one of their mis... more
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- As an anti-Bush, anti-Republican wave swamps many of that party’s House and Senate candidates, GOP Sen. Susan Collins appears to be riding it toward a third term.... more

I find that Keystone calling a bit premature given that a grand total of no precincts had reported. On the other hand, in good news for the GOP, CNN just put up a graphic showing Susan Collins with 100% of the vote and her challenger with 0%. That’s to say, Senator Collins had "3" and Loser Boy had "0". That race might tighten.... more
The embattled 4th District Republican state Senate nominee, Mike Faulk, doesn’t appreciate that Mark Brown, the Democratic Senate spokesman, provided a Kingsport paper with opposition research on him regarding his former legal practice:
“The independent senator is in such deep trouble with the folks here at home that he’s turned to the Nashville-based Democrat smear machine for help,” Faulk said in an e-mailed response. “This week’s attack comes from a state employee working... more
State Senate Democratic Caucus Political Director Mark Brown didn’t think GOP Senate candidate Mike Faulk’s counterattack on him for disclosing opposition research by a Texas firm to Kingsport Times News Reporter Hank Hayes was entirely appropriate.
Brown resents the implication that his informative political work was done on the state’s dime. He is on leave, you see, from the Caucus in order to provide reporters with information about a lawyers’ former clientele... more

Texas : In the 2008 Democratic Senate primary, State Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega has won the four-way race with 51% , avoiding a run-off and securing the Democratic nomination. Celebrate his victory by contributing twenty bucks to his campaign and helping him to reload his coffers for the general election!
Meanwhile, Bush-rubber-stamp John Cornyn’s primary opponent, Larry Kilgore , scored a sizable 18.5% of the Republican primary vote. &n... more
It’s March of 2008 and, in addition to a historic Presidential race, there are numerous high-profile and competitive Senate races. So, of course, it’s too early to take a look at 2010’s Senate races, right?
Wrong.
Over a year ago, I took a first glance at the 2010 races , which feature 19 Republican-held seats up compared with 15 Democratic seats. Among those up for re-election are 8 Republican Senators who will be at least 70 years old on Election Day 20... more
Texas : The Dallas Morning News highlights an interesting statistic : Democratic State Representative and Lieutenant Colonel Rick Noriega pulled in more than 111,000 more votes in his four-way primary than Bush-rubber-stamp John Cornyn received in his two-way primary against a fringe opponent. Doesn’t seem like Cornyn’s base is too fired up.
