I’ve been extremely light on the blogging front lately, but I have big plans to breathe new life into this site. I’ll be shifting gears as I reexamine my time, attention, and creative work . In the mean time, here’s a few links I’ve been meaning to share. New Brain Machine Improves Musical Creativity . Any tool that can help me clear the way for great music to happen is a friend of mine. Cosmovox is an iPhone app, a music theory-infused theremin. Korg is coming out with some really sweet compact USB-MIDI controllers . I’ll be first in line for the nanoKEY. From Digg : Study: Musicians Use Both Sides Of Brain More Than Others . My favorite comment: “they can force their brains to do unnatural things in the pursuit of ass. hats off to all of you!” Have a great weekend. ShareThis

From: clintisageek.com
Post Date: 2008-11-10 14:00:00

Scientists have developed a method to look into the brain of a person and read out who has spoken to him or her and what was said. With the help of neuroimaging and data mining techniques the researchers mapped the brain activity associated with the recognition of speech sounds and voices. In their Science article “Who” is Saying “What”? Brain-Based Decoding of Human Voice and Speech the four authors demonstrate that speech sounds and voices can be identified by means of... more

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) gave the green light earlier this month for a new non-invasive treatment for depression that relies on a magnetic device to stimulate the brain by sending magnetic pulses through the skull. Intended for patients whose depression is not responding to anti-depressants, the new therapy, called transcranial magnetic stimulation or TMS, is said to have none of the risks of other interventions such as surgically implanted electrodes and electric shock t... more

1,000 True Fans And The Long Tail
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-03-06 10:03:57

Kevin Kelly writes that the long tail is a blessing for aggregators (Amazon, Netflix) and consumers. But not so for creators. The solution is to find 1,000 True Fans. A creator, such as an artist, musician, photographer, craftsperson, performer, animator, designer, videomaker, or author - in other words, anyone producing works of art - needs to acquire only 1,000 True Fans to make a living. If your “True Fan” will purchase everything you produce, or spend $100 a year, ... more

GTD: Integrating Remind, iCal, GCal, Quicksilver
From: feeds.feedburner.com
Post Date: 2008-04-13 16:13:18

A Unix program called Remind is one of the greatest tools for keeping your goals and projects on track. Where calendars like iCal and Google Calendar come up short, Remind fills in the gaps. For example, iCal alarms can remind you of an event minutes, hours, or days before it occurs, but it won’t count down to a goal with date-based math. Say you’re trying to lose 10 pounds by the first of June. No calendar application that I know of will tell you that you have 49 days to rea... more
