As it is Adobe MAX this week, there is a lot of talk about the Flash platform. How does this relate to the Open Web ? Well, it turns out that Dion and I have been discussing how Flash can join and become a part of the Open Web.
Dion kicks things off with his blog post “The Flash Platform: How Adobe could join the Open Web to take on…” . He first talks about how developers s...... [Show More]
Definitely true of smaller blogs, but I wonder if this is also the case with traditional media outlets (newspapers etc.) that don’t offer full RSS feeds of their content. It does pose a small question about ad revenue.
Fair enough though: as far as user-friendliness and encouraging visitor loyalty goes, full RSS feeds are definitely a must-have....... [Show More]

A couple of days ago Google released a video chat plugin for Gmail . With Google, it’s always a little hard to figure out where all of the pieces fit - that’s why there are entire blogs dedicated to the company - but in this case, I think this seemingly innocuous Gmail feature hints at something bigger.
As I mentioned on RIA Weekly, I think there are a couple of core components to RIAs. O...... [Show More]

proposition 8 Post Source: feeds.feedburner.com Posted: Nov 05 2008 18:14:03
The sad story of yesterday’s election seems like it’s going to be California voting for Proposition 8, declaring that marriage is between a man and a woman, thus striking down the state’s Supreme Court ruling. This to me seems like obvious discrimination and I couldn’t be more against it. I just read a great piece that put it into perfect perspective for me (via tech...... [Show More]
This comes as part of the from my personal blog series…
In recent presentations, Ben and I have been taking a look back on the rise of Ajax (where Ajax == popularity of dhtml :). At its core, I think it all comes down to UI responsiveness.
When you look at the killer apps such as Google Suggest and Maps, they broke through a set of myths on the Web.

A timely reality check in multiple respects – an insightful PDC snapshot from a Mozilla.org employee and some commentary from Nicholas Carr In the crowd at Microsoft’s cloud-computing coming out party earlier this week sat at least one Googler, and, as the Guardian’s Jack Schofield notes today, his observations about the event and its implications are worth reading. There is an interesting twist coming out of the events of last week that I think warrants explicit notice. By "connecting the dots" on a series of observations, one can come to the conclusion that Microsoft is now well in advance of any of the other major software systems vendors when it comes to establishing the platform of tomorrow. And, yes, though most of the Oslo/Azure world is no...... [Show More]

Microsoft has made its Azure cloud computing announcements at PDC, so now we know what it’s doing: it is extending Windows 2008 Server into the online market so that programmers who develop applications in Visual Studio (and other things, see below) can test them locally and deploy them globally .
