Open Radar : Radar is Apple’s internal bug tracking system. How Apple views Radar and how external third-party developers view Radar causes a bit of a conflict. Apple heavily uses Radar internally. Thousands of Apple employees’ work-days are defined primarily by what’s in their bug queue. Also factor in how Apple is an incredibly secretive organization.......

Last weekend -more precisely last Saturday- Mac programmers gathered in Frankfurt for the first Macoun conference. Topics ranged from “Introduction to Objective-C” over “OpenGL ES on the iPhone” to “Objective-C Dispatching”. Was well worth the money. Actually even more a steal at 40 EUR for 12 presentations on 2 tracks. Wifi wasn’t working which was a li......

UPDATE: Be sure to see Alex’s comment below for his view on this. I am a huge fan of Twitter , regardless of what I say or ever complain about. As a developer of Twitter apps, I want to see it succeed. However, I will sound the warning bell when I see things happen that could detrimentally affect the service. A post on his personal blog today by Twitter’s API Lead, Alex Pay......

I went to C4[2] last month. For the uninitiated, C4[2] is the third (yes we count from zero) conference of its kind, a conference for independent-minded Mac and now iPhone developers, held annually in Chicago, Illinois. It is run by Jonathan “Wolf” rentzsch , who is an independent Mac / WebObjects consultant. It was a great gathering and I look forward to going to C4[3] if......

So, how is the world’s most popular 64-bit Mac software built?  At the recent Mac-dev C4 conference , Lightroom project lead Troy Gaul presented an inside look at the structure of the application.  Hopefully a recording of his talk will be posted soon to flesh out the details, though I don’t have an ETA for that.......

Last weekend, several of the Rogue Amoebas were in Chicago for a conference known as C4 . At this conference, a couple hundred developers gather to discuss many aspects of developing software for the Mac (and now, iPhone). It’s a great way to meet other people doing the same sorts of things we are, learn a lot, and have some fun as well. I had a chance to chat with Chuck Joiner o......

I’m checked into the hotel in Chicago and resting before C4[2] kicks off this evening. Add me your iChat list, with paul@kupuk.com (AIM). Objective-C, particularly after it became 2.0, is my favourite language. It’s partly because of the language itself, but I guess mostly because of the libraries. The Cocoa libraries are awesome. For the most part. No software is perfect, and even in Cocoa there are things that could be improved. One thing that continue to trip me up is one of NSDictiona ry’s initialiser methods. De......

Objective-C (Obj-C) is a nifty little language. It has grown from the ancient patriarch of Computer Science, the C programming language . Like many of C’s children (both legitimate and illegitimate) it has the ability to fall back upon it’s basic C-ness for speed and bare-metal hacking, but has it’s own systems above and beyond primitive C behavior to make lif......
