After going over some of the recent and not-so-recent XML::RSS bugs , I noticed a common pattern of people wanting support for replicable XML elements. What they wanted was that when two elements with identical names were specified (in many RSS use cases where doing this would make sense), then the value pointed by the keyname would become a reference to an array instead of just concatena...... I’m in C portability hell with Time::y2038 . The code to test the usable limits of the system time functions is touching off all sorts of fascinating bugs in various operating systems, many of which cause the test program to hang.
Oh, and then there’s reports that "old" (read 2002) versions of Visual C++ don’t speak C99 but some Microsoft extension gibberish...... [Show More]
Hot on the heels of NYTProf 2.04, I’ve just released NYTProf 2.05. It has a few small but significant bug fixes. From the Changes file:
Fixed alteration of $! during profiling, thanks to Slaven Rezic.
Fixed clock_gett ime( 41; clock selection to fallback to CLOCK_REALTIME
if CLOCK_MONOTONIC is not available, e.g, on linux 2.4.
Fixed error when application ends after DB::disab...... [Show More]
At some point a CGI::Appli cation::Pl ugin::Vali dateRM test started failing, and I’m having a heck of time figuring out why.
I’m fairly sure something in the dependency chain changed behavior, and I’ve been unable to track down what the real issue is.
Take a look at the bug report and the test reports .
I’ll be in Portland, OR next week (and will possibly attend ...... [Show More]
cpanminiwebserver Post Source: feeds.feedburner.com Posted: Aug 22 2008 23:59:42
The cpan::Mini ::Webserve r module is getting a lot of love in the last few weeks.
The most recent 0.40 version includes a lot of goodies including:
act as a true cpan mirror so that you can point you cpan client to it;
syntax highlight of Perl code;
Bonjour registration: easy to find on a local lan;
shows which modules are installed locally;
A lot more meta information shown about each mod...... [Show More]
what a nightmare Post Source: utterlyboring.com Posted: Jun 18 2008 22:05:47
Damn you LayeredTech for forcing me to move servers . While the transferring of data went smoothly, DNS issues kicked my butt . Then, the other thing I was worried about bit me in the butt: The new server is running PHP 5 and MySQL 5 while the old server was running PHP 4 and MySQL 4. While I did an informal audit of the sites I host and the software packages they ran, I couldn’t really...... [Show More]

more planets Post Source: blog.dave.org.uk Posted: Mar 17 2008 19:56:00
Over the weekend I found time to rebuild the rest of my missing planets. I’ve resurrected Planet Balham ( Atom ), Planet Westminster ( Atom ) and Planet Doctor Who ( Atom ). They all have Atom feeds available as well. This has been an interesting test of Perlanet (my simple planet-building program). When building planet davorg , I was only using feed...... [Show More]

For various reasons, some of which I’ll expound on for the Mac geeks out there, the Bike Friday IRC channel I began so many moons ago is back again. If you have questions about the bikes or service or just want to chat, this (I hope) will provide a good forum for some live interaction. Heck, maybe one day I can get the rest of Bike Friday entered into the computer age and we ......
