You might think that because it was a holiday weekend,
there were very few news items to cover, and that simply wasn’t true for
Thanksgiving. Between trailers, pictures, rumors, and legitimate news, there are
dozens of stories you might need to catch up on. We’ll give you just over a
dozen, and the rest is up to you.

It was a pretty laidback week around the movie blogosphere, with our good friends south of the border primarily cooking up turkey dinners rather than cooking up major headlines. The Screen Actor’s Guild strike is still being discussed and drawing ever closer, meanwhile some details leaked out about a new Michael Cera movie that may end up being a must-see movie at Sundance in January. Elsewh...... [Show More]
After a couple of days in post-screening limbo, the reviews for “The Reader” are in, and while there’s much praise for the film, I suspect the response may not be quite what Harvey Weinstein was hoping for.
The general impression appears to be that it’s intelligent, well-crafted and delicately performed, but as Kris anticipated recently, there are concerns that it may p...... [Show More]
The Four Christmases reviews have snuck down the chimney.
Man mountain Vince Vaughn, who looks like he ate the Vince Vaughn in Swingers, stars opposite Reese Witherspoon, who is reportedly only witherspoon during a scene at a dining table.
The two actors apparently hated each other on set, which should mean this is one of the most realistic portrayals of a long-term relationship ever seen on s...... [Show More]

UPDATED: Slow on the uptake again, the Hollywood Reporter finally offers the unqualified rave we’ve been awaiting. Gushing praise in all departments, including a big thumbs-up for Pitt (”his most impressive outing to date”). Blanchett, meanwhile, “illuminates the screen.” No issues with digital or emotional aloofness to be found.

The Australia movie reviews have hit the trades mate.
Nicole Kidman plays an English aristocrat who inherits a sprawling ranch before World War II and pacts with a local man (played by Huge Noseman) to protect it from a takeover. As the pair drive thousands of tasty cattle over unforgiving landscape, they get caught up in the first bombing by the Japanese.
Australia is directed by Baz ...... [Show More]

Looking across the early reviews, I think it’s fair to say that “Aus traliaR 21; has cleared the first hurdle. They’re mixed, for sure — hardly new territory for Baz Luhrmann — but there’s a lot of admiration out there, even within the kvetching. There were a number of voices out there anticipating an outright disaster, but so far, it doesn’t sound like o...... [Show More]
Thanks to Rod for pointing us to the trailer for Nothing But the Truth on Moviefone (via comingsoon.net)
Some critics who saw this in Toronto noticed the obvious parallel between the movie’s basic plot catalyst and the Valerie Plame/Judith Miller case. Some of those same early viewers got all uptight and indignant because the actual story Rod Lurie wanted to tell is nothing ...... [Show More]

Ed Zwick may just be one of those directors who will never be in critics’ good graces: a fine technical craftsman and a no-nonsense storyteller, even his best films remain as resolutely unfashionable in execution as they are noble in intention. Nothing wrong with that, of course — I’m no real fan, but films like “Legends of the Fall,” “The Last Samurai” an...... [Show More]
If the voters of California had visualized that headline, Prop. 8 might have had a completely different outcome. Alas, it’s a match made only for the movies (as far as we know): Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron will star in The Danish Girl . Kidman plays artist Einar Wegener, a man with a very smooth forehead who, with the encouragement of his wife Greta (Theron), adopts a f...... [Show More]

If you ever saw
Mona Lisa , you’d be surprised to learn that
it’s being remade. That’s not a slight against the

bit - but it’s not exactly one of those movies you always think they should try
again. And yet, here we are, and the role of Bob Hoskins ...... [Show More]
