thanks to dennis for tweeting this bbc story about labels pushing a new brand fpr mp3 audio . it reinforces the theory that the move away from drm has more to do with opportunities than freedom. i am fine with that as the trend doesnt seem likely to reverse at this point.

firefox 3.1 now includes support for the html 5 video and audio tags. a nice new article just went up on using these on the mozilla developer portal . firefox 3.1 currently supports the ogg format but other formats are being discussed for future support.

over the weekend i installed rockbox on my ipod and let me just say that i love my ipod again.
i love that i can rate podcasts. i love that i can delete a song right from my ipod. i love that i can play ogg vorbis files. i love that i can make dynamic playlists on the fly based on song metadata.

it was announced at the firefix plus summit today that firefox will include native theora and vorbis support for the html 5 media elements. so and will support those codecs built into firefox itself. ... the backend has been committed to the main mozilla source code and is enabled by default.
